Shalom House helps hundreds of people with serious mental illness each year by providing an array of community-based mental health services and a choice of affordable quality housing where people can escape the stress of homelessness, hunger, and isolation. Our goal is to help people address personal goals, receive services, take medication, and once again become a vital part of the community.
We Need Your Help Bangor Savings Bank Foundation will give a total of $100,000 to 68 local non-profit organizations again this year. And we want to be one of them! All you need to do is click on the “Community Matters More” Logo above and cast your vote. On the ballot write in Shalom House under the Greater Portland/Lewiston Auburn section. You can make a difference in the lives of the people living with mental illness in your community. By contributing to the Shalom House Annual Fund you play a major role in providing our clients with the tools and opportunities to enhance their lives and regain their independence. Your gift will can help us… Hope …provide high quality, flexible mental health services. The individuals who walk through our doors are battling psychiatric symptoms, medical complications, impairments and behaviors that make it difficult or even impossible for them to function independently.
…provide quality, stable and affordable housing. The individuals who enter Shalom House’s services often arrive with nowhere to go and nowhere to sleep.
…ease the burden and improve the quality of life for the mentally ill. While mental illness can mean major challenges to functioning, communicating and living independently, our programs offer powerful tools for meeting and triumphing over those challenges.
…support community outreach and awareness. By educating and connecting with our community we can help to raise awareness about mental illness, put an end to stigma and promote and advocate for treatment and recovery.
